Why do they have to be so important?

Description

If I had a silver for every blood elf player who was Captain of the guard, Ranger general, or some other important rank... I think I could buy Silvermoon.

I mean, it just seems to me that a good amount of blood elf roleplayers think that saving the world from demons, the undead, an evil dragon, etc. isn't impressive enough. They have to have a tragic background (Even though you have a default racial background worthy of angst), be lovers with someone important, then personally know Sylvanas, or some other popular lore character.

I'm all for unique backgrounds and characters... But there are limits. I once met a blood elf paladin, and this is his past (Which he explained to me out of nowhere):
-Raised by wolves in Eversong Woods (No wolves there... I checked.)
-When questioned on lack of wolves in Eversong, he claims he killed all of them because he's the alpha
-Somehow knows how to read, and got a letter from long lost brother in Stormwind
-Went there and learned how to be a paladin (Without sucking the life from a Naa'ru)
-Brother died because a blood elf was jealous of his powers
-Gary Stu fled back to Eversong and joined the Horde about 20 years before Blood Elves joined the horde.
-Rose up and became captain of the guard.

That one is a bit over the top, but it does prove my point. So many blood elf roleplayers NEED to be SO impressive and have so much power and authority. Newsflash, people. If you're not a mage, or maybe a hunter, it's unlikely that you'll hold ANY power in Silvermoon.

I never roleplayed any of this but I understand what you mean, not everyone need to have their character be so impressive and have incredable power that makes them great
